Features & Components

Key components: Engine, Hydrostatic Transmission, Cutting Deck, Steering Wheel, Seat, Control Panel, Fuel Tank, Battery.

  1. Engine: Briggs & Stratton or Kohler engine; provides power to drive wheels and blades.
  2. Transmission: Hydrostatic drive for smooth, variable speed control without shifting gears.
  3. Cutting Deck: Fabricated steel deck with multiple blades; height adjustable via lever.
  4. Controls: Ignition key, Blade Engage/Disengage lever, Parking Brake, Speed Pedal, Reverse Implement Option (RIO).
  5. Seat: Adjustable, padded seat with operator presence safety switch.

WARNING! Familiarize yourself with all controls and their functions before starting the engine.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Install Steering Wheel: Align and tighten bolt.
  2. Attach Seat: Mount seat onto frame and secure with provided bolts.
  3. Connect Battery: Attach red (+) then black (-) cables; ensure secure.
  4. Check Tire Pressure: Inflate to recommended PSI (see Specifications).
  5. Add Engine Oil: Use SAE 30 or 10W-30 (check manual for capacity).
  6. Add Fuel: Use fresh, unleaded gasoline (87 octane or higher).
  7. Perform Pre-Operation Check: Inspect for loose parts, leaks, and proper function of all controls.

CAUTION! Use proper lifting techniques or assistance; unit is heavy.

Controls & Operation

Starting, driving, mowing, and shutting down procedures.

  1. Starting: Sit on seat, set parking brake, disengage blades, move speed control to neutral, turn key to START.
  2. Driving: Release parking brake. Press forward pedal to go forward, reverse pedal to go backward. Use steering wheel to turn.
  3. Mowing: Engage blades with lever once engine is at full throttle. Adjust speed to match grass conditions.
  4. Slopes: Mow up and down slopes, not across. Reduce speed on slopes.
  5. Stopping: Disengage blades, move speed to neutral, set parking brake, turn key to OFF, remove key.
  6. Reverse Operation (RIO): To mow in reverse, you must activate the RIO switch (if equipped) each time.

Tip: Overlap mowing passes by a few inches for a uniform cut.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures longevity and reliability. Refer to engine manual for specific engine maintenance.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck engine oil level, tire pressure, and for loose parts/debris.
First 5 hoursChange engine oil (break-in period).
Every 8 hours or dailyCheck tire pressure; clean deck underside.
Every 25 hoursChange engine oil; check air filter; grease fittings.
Every 50 hoursReplace oil filter; check spark plug; inspect blades.
Every 100 hoursReplace air filter; check drive belt tension; inspect battery.
SeasonallySharpen/replace blades; check transmission fluid; prepare for storage.

Engine Care

Proper engine maintenance is critical for performance.

  1. Oil Change: Run engine to warm oil. Drain via drain plug into pan. Refill with recommended oil to proper level on dipstick.
  2. Air Filter: Replace paper filter or clean foam pre-cleaner. Do not oil paper filters.
  3. Spark Plug: Clean and gap to 0.030". Replace if worn or fouled.
  4. Fuel System: Use fuel stabilizer if storing over 30 days. Replace fuel filter annually.
  5. Cooling System: Keep cooling fins and air intake clear of debris.

WARNING! Engine is hot after operation. Allow to cool before servicing.

Cutting Deck Maintenance

A well-maintained deck ensures a quality cut and prevents damage.

  1. Blade Sharpening/Replacement: Remove deck or safely tip mower. Secure blade with block. Sharpen at original angle. Balance blade. Torque bolt to 70-90 ft-lbs.
  2. Deck Cleaning: After each use, scrape off grass clippings and mud. Hose down (avoid electrical components).
  3. Belt Inspection: Check V-belts for cracks, fraying, or wear. Adjust tension if loose.
  4. Deck Leveling: Check on flat surface. Adjust deck hangers so front is 1/4" lower than rear for even cut.
  5. Spindle Lubrication: Grease spindle zerks until grease purges from seals.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Add fuel stabilizer to tank and run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  2. Change engine oil and filter (old oil contains contaminants).
  3. Remove battery, clean terminals, and store in a cool, dry place on a trickle charger.
  4. Clean entire mower thoroughly, especially the underside of the deck.
  5. Store in a dry, covered location. Consider using a breathable cover.
  6. Block up the frame to take weight off the tires if storing for extended periods.

CAUTION! Never store the mower with fuel in the tank indoors or near an open flame.
