Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assemble on a flat, stable surface.

  1. Handlebar Assembly: Attach handlebar to frame using provided hardware.
  2. Chute Assembly: Install discharge chute and secure remote control cable.
  3. Auger Installation: Ensure shear pins are properly installed on auger shaft.
  4. Add Engine Oil: Fill with SAE 5W-30 oil (check dipstick for level).
  5. Add Fuel: Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with no more than 10% ethanol.
  6. Battery Connection: Connect battery for electric start (if equipped).

WARNING! Machine is heavy; use assistance during assembly. Ensure all bolts are tightened securely.

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting.

  1. Starting: Engage parking brake. Turn key to ON. For electric start, turn key to START. For manual start, pull recoil starter.
  2. Drive Control: Squeeze drive control lever to engage wheel drive. Release to stop.
  3. Auger Control: Squeeze auger control lever to engage augers. Release to stop.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck engine oil level, tire pressure, shear pins, and controls.
First 5 hoursChange engine oil (break-in period).
Every 25 hours or seasonChange engine oil, check spark plug, inspect belts.
Every 50 hours or seasonChange oil, replace spark plug, lubricate control cables and pivot points.
End of seasonPerform full maintenance, add fuel stabilizer, prepare for storage.

Engine Care

Proper engine maintenance is critical for reliable operation.

  1. Oil: Use SAE 5W-30 detergent oil. Check level with dipstick when engine is cold.
  2. Air Filter: Inspect foam pre-filter and paper element regularly. Clean or replace as needed.
  3. Spark Plug: Use Champion RC12YC (or equivalent). Gap: 0.030 in. (0.76 mm).
  4. Fuel: Use fresh, unleaded gasoline (87 octane minimum). Add fuel stabilizer for storage.
  5. Battery: Keep terminals clean and tight. Charge battery periodically during storage.

WARNING! Always allow engine to cool before performing maintenance.

Auger & Drive System

Inspect and maintain the auger and drive systems for efficient snow removal.

  1. Shear Pins/Bolts: Inspect before each use. Replace immediately if broken. Use only Ariens replacement shear pins.
  2. Auger Lubrication: Lubricate auger shaft and impeller shaft at grease fittings each season.
  3. Drive Belts: Inspect for wear, cracks, or fraying. Adjust tension or replace as needed.
  4. Tire Pressure: Maintain front tires at 15 psi, rear tires at 10 psi for optimal traction.
  5. Skid Shoes: Adjust height for desired scraping depth. Replace when worn.

Storage & Off-Season Care

Proper storage prevents damage and ensures easy startup next season.

  1. Run engine to burn off remaining fuel in carburetor, or add fuel stabilizer to a full tank and run for 5 minutes.
  2. Change engine oil and replace oil filter (if equipped).
  3. Remove spark plug, add 1 oz. of oil to cylinder, pull starter rope slowly to coat cylinder walls, reinstall plug.
  4. Clean entire machine, removing all snow, dirt, and debris.
  5. Lubricate all control cables, pivot points, and chute mechanism.
  6. Store in a clean, dry place. Cover machine to protect from dust.
  7. Disconnect and remove battery. Store battery in a cool, dry place and maintain charge.
