Safety Information

Read and understand all safety instructions before operating. Failure to follow can result in serious injury or death.

  1. Always wear appropriate safety gear: eye protection, hearing protection, long pants, and sturdy shoes.
  2. Clear mowing area of debris, rocks, toys, and other objects before starting.
  3. Never allow children or untrained persons to operate the mower.
  4. Do not mow on slopes greater than XX degrees. Mow across slopes, not up and down.
  5. Stop engine and remove key before performing any maintenance or clearing blockages.

WARNING! Gasoline is flammable. Refuel outdoors in a well-ventilated area with engine off and cool. Do not smoke.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires basic tools (included or common household).

  1. Install steering control levers: Attach to pivot points and secure with provided pins.
  2. Attach seat: Position on seat plate and secure with bolts.
  3. Install battery: Connect red (+) cable first, then black (-). Secure battery holder.
  4. Check tire pressure: Inflate to recommended PSI (see sidewall or manual).
  5. Add engine oil and fuel: Use types specified in Engine section.
  6. Perform pre-operation check: Inspect for loose parts, leaks, and proper function of controls and safety switches.

CAUTION! Use assistance when lifting heavy components. Ensure all bolts and connections are tight before operation.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Familiarize yourself with all controls before starting the engine.

Control Panel: Ignition key switch, Choke, Throttle/Governor control, PTO (Blade Engage) switch, Hour meter, Headlight switch.

Steering/Speed: Two independent lap bars. Push forward to go forward, pull back to reverse/reverse. To turn, move one lever back relative to the other. The farther you move the levers, the faster the speed.

Starting Procedure: 1. Sit on seat. 2. Engage parking brake. 3. Move steering levers to neutral (outward position). 4. Set throttle to mid-position. 5. Turn key to START. Release when engine starts.

Mowing: Engage PTO switch to spin blades. Drive at a pace suitable for grass conditions. Overlap passes slightly for even cut.

Stopping/Shutdown: Disengage PTO. Move levers to neutral. Engage parking brake. Turn key to OFF. Remove key.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance is crucial for safety, performance, and warranty compliance.

Interval (Hours/Season)Task
Before each useCheck tire pressure, fuel/oil levels, look for loose parts or leaks.
First 5 hoursChange engine oil (break-in period). Check all bolts for tightness.
Every 8 hours or dailyClean deck underside of grass clippings. Check blades for damage.
Every 25 hoursChange engine oil. Clean/replace air filter. Check spark plug.
Every 50 hoursChange oil filter (if equipped). Lubricate all zerks fittings. Check drive belt tension.
Every 100 hoursReplace spark plug. Replace fuel filter. Check battery terminals.
SeasonallySharpen/replace blades. Check tire condition. Perform storage preparation.

Engine Care

Refer to separate engine manual for detailed specifications.

  1. Oil Change: Run engine to warm oil. Drain via plug into pan. Refill with SAE 10W-30 (or as specified for temperature) to proper level on dipstick.
  2. Air Filter: Remove cover, clean foam pre-filter (if equipped) with soapy water, dry. Replace paper element if dirty. Never run engine without filter.
  3. Spark Plug: Disconnect wire, clean area, remove plug. Check gap (0.030" typical). Replace if electrodes are worn or cracked.
  4. Fuel System: Use fresh, clean gasoline. Add fuel stabilizer for storage. Replace in-line fuel filter annually.

Tip: Always disconnect spark plug wire before performing any engine maintenance.

Cutting Deck Maintenance

A clean, balanced deck and sharp blades are essential for a quality cut.

  1. Blade Removal/Sharpening: Disconnect spark plug. Block deck up safely. Remove bolt securing blade. Sharpen blade evenly to maintain balance. Replace if cracked or badly worn.
  2. Deck Cleaning: After each use, scrape off accumulated grass. Hose down (avoid electrical components) and let dry to prevent rust.
  3. Belt Inspection: Check V-belts for cracks, fraying, or glazing. Adjust tension if loose (refer to manual for specific procedure).
  4. Deck Leveling: Park on level surface. Measure blade tip height at all four corners. Adjust deck hanger links to achieve even height (typically 1/8" lower in front).

WARNING! Blades are extremely sharp. Wear heavy gloves when handling.

Storage & Winterization

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Add fuel stabilizer to nearly full gas tank. Run engine for 5 minutes to circulate treated fuel.
  2. Change engine oil and filter (if equipped) while engine is warm.
  3. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of oil into cylinder, and pull starter cord slowly to coat cylinder walls. Reinstall plug.
  4. Clean entire mower thoroughly, especially underside of deck. Apply light oil to exposed metal parts to prevent rust.
  5. Disconnect battery negative cable. Store battery in a cool, dry place on a wood surface, and charge periodically.
  6. Store in a clean, dry place, preferably covered.

CAUTION! Do not store near open flame, water heater, or other ignition sources.
