Safety Information

Read all instructions before operating. Wear appropriate safety gear.

  1. Clear area: Remove rocks, wires, and other debris before use.
  2. Fuel safety: Add fuel outdoors, away from ignition sources. Use fresh gasoline.
  3. Operation: Keep hands and feet away from rotating parts. Do not operate on slopes over 15 degrees.
  4. Children/pets: Keep clear of area during operation.

WARNING! Risk of serious injury or death from rotating auger. Never attempt to clear clog by hand. Always use clearing tool. Disconnect spark plug before performing maintenance.

Assembly & Setup

Unpack and inspect all parts. Assembly requires basic tools.

  1. Handle assembly: Attach upper handle to lower handle using provided bolts.
  2. Chute assembly: Install discharge chute and deflector; connect control cables.
  3. Install drift cutters and skid shoes.
  4. Add engine oil: Use SAE 5W-30 synthetic (approx. 20 oz). Check dipstick.
  5. Add fuel: Use unleaded gasoline with minimum 87 octane. Do not overfill.

CAUTION! Ensure all bolts are tightened securely. Test controls for free movement before starting engine.

Specifications

Controls and Operation

Control panel located on handle. Auger control lever (left), drive control lever (right), chute control knob, deflector control lever, ignition key, electric start button, headlight switch, heated grip switch.

Operation Steps: 1. Insert key. 2. Set choke (cold start). 3. Engage electric start or pull recoil. 4. Squeeze auger control to engage auger. 5. Squeeze drive control to move machine. 6. Adjust chute direction and deflector angle as needed.

Tips: Overlap each pass by a few inches. Take shallow cuts in deep snow. Allow machine to clear snow before advancing.

Starting & Stopping Procedures

Electric Start: 1. Insert key and turn to ON. 2. Set choke to FULL (cold engine). 3. Press and hold electric start button until engine starts. 4. Gradually move choke to OFF position as engine warms.

Recoil Start (Backup): 1. Insert key, turn to ON. 2. Set choke. 3. Pull recoil starter cord briskly.

Stopping: 1. Release auger and drive controls. 2. Turn key to OFF. 3. Remove key. For emergency stop, turn key to OFF immediately.

WARNING! Never leave machine unattended with engine running. Always turn off and remove key.

Maintenance Schedule

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck engine oil level, tire pressure, controls, and fasteners.
First 5 hoursChange engine oil (break-in).
Every seasonChange engine oil, check spark plug, lubricate control cables and pivot points.
Every 25 hoursChange oil, check/replace spark plug, inspect shear pins and belts.
Every 50 hoursChange oil, replace spark plug, inspect friction disc, check tire wear.
As neededAdjust skid shoes, replace shear pins, sharpen/scrape auger edge.

Note: Use only Ariens genuine parts for replacement. Refer to parts diagram in manual.

Storage & Off-Season Care

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. Fuel system: Add fuel stabilizer to tank, run engine for 5 minutes to circulate. Either drain tank completely or fill to prevent condensation.
  2. Engine: Change oil. Remove spark plug, add 1 teaspoon of oil into cylinder, pull recoil slowly to coat, reinstall plug.
  3. Clean machine: Wash off salt and debris. Dry thoroughly.
  4. Lubricate: Apply light oil to all exposed metal and pivot points.
  5. Storage: Store in dry place, cover machine. Remove battery and store on trickle charger.

CAUTION! Gasoline left in carburetor over 30 days can form gums that clog fuel system. Use stabilizer or drain.
