Controls and Operation

Handle Controls: Drive control lever, height adjustment lever, and engine stop cable.

Starting Procedure:

  1. Check oil and fuel levels.
  2. Push the primer bulb 3 times (cold engine).
  3. Set the engine speed control to FAST.
  4. Pull the recoil starter handle firmly.

Operating: Squeeze the drive control lever against the handle to engage self-propelled drive. Release to stop drive. To stop engine, release the drive lever and push the engine stop control.

Mowing Tips: Mow when grass is dry. Overlap each pass by a few inches for even cutting. Change mowing pattern weekly.

Cutting Height Adjustment

Adjust the cutting height to match grass conditions and season.

  1. Stop the engine and wait for the blade to stop completely.
  2. Pull the height adjustment lever outward and move it to the desired position (1-6).
  3. Ensure all four wheels are set to the same height for an even cut.
  4. Recommended heights: 2.5-3 inches for most grasses, higher in summer heat, lower for final fall mowing.

Tip: Never remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade length in a single mowing to maintain lawn health.

Maintenance Schedule

Regular maintenance ensures long life and optimal performance.

IntervalTask
Before each useCheck oil level, inspect blade for damage, clear deck of debris
Every 25 hoursChange engine oil, clean or replace air filter, check spark plug
Every seasonSharpen or replace blade, lubricate wheel bearings and height adjustment points
As neededClean underside of deck, inspect drive belt, tighten fasteners

Blade Sharpening: Disconnect spark plug. Remove blade bolt (clockwise thread). Sharpen blade evenly, balancing is critical. Reinstall securely.

Storage Guidelines

Proper storage prevents fuel system issues and corrosion.

  1. At season end: Add fuel stabilizer to tank and run engine for 5 minutes to circulate.
  2. Drain fuel or run engine until it stops (if storing more than 30 days).
  3. Clean the mower thoroughly, especially the underside of the deck.
  4. Store in a cool, dry place, preferably off the floor.
  5. Remove the spark plug and add 1 tablespoon of oil into the cylinder. Pull the starter cord slowly to distribute oil, then reinstall plug.
